Corporate history

1974

IG Index, the original IG Group company, was founded in 1974. It was the first financial spread betting company in Britain, and is today the leading operation of its type in the world. The group expanded rapidly in the 1990s with the introduction of Foreign Exchange dealing, Contracts for Differences (CFDs) and sports spread betting.

2000

In 2000 IG Group was floated on the London Stock Exchange. In 2003 the founder's decision to sell his remaining interest in the company compelled a management buyout backed by CVC Capital Partners.

The group continued to expand its product range and scope of operations through the introduction of binary betting and the establishment of a rapidly growing business in Australia.

2005

In May 2005, IG Group Holdings plc was floated on the main list of the London Stock Exchange. Since then it has been promoted to become a member of the FTSE 250 and currently has a market capitalisation of around £1.2 billion.

IG Group companies have over 65,000 clients worldwide making around 900,000 transactions a month, over 90% of them online. In the year to May 2007, the Group achieved a turnover of £122m, and generated a record profit before tax of £69m.
